Women’s Institutes

KELVIN GROVE. Mrs Ryan presided at the annual meeting in March. Letters from soldiers were received from F. Kensington, H. Shepherd. F. Sollitt and It. Harvey. Mrs. Ryans’ resignation was accepted with regret. Mrs. McClelland of the Federation Executive occupied the chair for the election. Tho chairman of the Kairanga County Council had asked for the Kelvin Grove Institute members to take charge of the Patriotic shop on March 10. A donation of 7s. for soldiers’ parcel fund was acknowledged from Mr. and Mrs Burr, also Mrs Parker’s donation of prizes for next euchre party. Mrs Leader kindly donated a gift set for Institute funds which was won by Mrs Frank Kensington. A vote of thanks was passed to Mrs E. Rees for bringing supper provisions from town for euchre parties. A baby set was sent to Mrs. Joseph Radomski's baby. Mrs Lewis kindly donated a bag of flour for a raffle for patriotic shop. An iced cake donated by Mrs Ryan lor patriotic funds realised £1 17s 9d. A letter of thanks is to be sent to Mr Mabbitt for auditing the books free of charge. Mrs. Callahan was elected president and was accorded a hearty welcome, and a hearty vote of thanks was conveyed to Mrs Ryan, retiring president. Mrs Farfeita presented bouquets to Mrs. McClelland and to the late president, secretary and treasurer, vice-presidents Mesdames Ryan and E. Wolfsbau-er. Mrs Rees is treasurer for the soldiers’ parcel fuhd. Mrs. Farfeita won the points prize for the year for flowers with 41 points, and Mrs. Callahan won the points prize for other competition with 33 points. Compeptitions resulted: Mrs Rook iced cake; jam, Mrs Sollitt 1, Mrs Callahan 2. Mrs Grayson 3; flowers, Cluster, Mrs Brown 1, Mrs Radomski 2, Mrs Farfeita 3; single bloom, Mrs Anderson 1, Mrs. Callahan 2, Mrs Ryan 3. Competition for April, collection of three vegetables, 2 of each kind. Hostesses for April, Mrs Farfeita and Mrs. Grayson.
