Armed Forces Appeal Board

At a sitting of the Palmerston North Armed Forces Appeal Board held yesterday, the following decisions were reached:— Sine die adjournments: C. F. Nicol, storekeeper, appeal by A. Nicol & Spn, W. E. Davis, farmer, appeal by appellant; C. E. Taylor, works manager, appeal by Taylor & Pointon; M. A. H. Levy, hairdresser, appeal by appellant; the appeal of D. G. Glendinning, public accountant, held over from last week, was adjourned sine die. The following appeals were set down for the June sittings with directions to replace themselves:—R. N. Brill, farm manager, appeal by Mrs. R. N. Brill; C. H. Davey, farmer, appeal by appellant; H. 11. Harris, farm manager, appeal by F. B. Grotrian; 11. Teasdaie, dairy farm er, appeal by appellant; P. R. B. Hansen, farm hand, appeal by C. V. Hansen; T. W. Bicknell, farmer, appeal by 11. J. Burrell; R. A. Buchanan, farmer, appeal by A. R. Buchanan; D. M. Taylor, engineer, appeal by Taylor & Pointon. The following were dismissed, not to he called up before May 31st:—C. J. Mullin, farm hand, appeal by H. Mullin; R. M. Aigar, farm manager, appeal by S. E. Algar; A. A. Nielsen, farmer, appeal by N. P- Nielsen; N. E. Jennings, dairy farmer, appeal by J. T. Jennings; J. E. Boman, farmer, appeal by C. J. Boman; O. B. James, farm hand, appeal by R. 11. James. Other decisions were:—S. F. Barnao, fishmonger, appeal by Barnao Brothers against overseas service, dismissed; R. Leete, farmer, appeal by G. L. Leete, dismissed, not to be called up before June 30th. Apple Brought, 1000 Dollars. One thousand dollars for c.n apple! It sounds like American enthusiasm, and it was. When Joe E. Brown, who is now in Auckland, was doing a radio show for war bonds in the States, he happened to take a bite out of an apple. Before lie could take another a small boy, quick as lightning, offered him 1000 dollars for the apple because the famous actor had taken a bite from it.
