Notes of the Day
Jjadies of the Halcomhe districY will conduct the fortnightly shop for patriotic funds in Feilding to-morrow. At the Feilding Borough Council yesterday, the Mayor (Mr. T. B. Seddon) on behalf of the Patriotic Society, made the usual presentation to Pte. M. W. MeCardie. Feilding's weather took a sharp turn yesterday when heavy rain from the northwest swept over the town. Early this week, the falling barometer indicated the approach of low pressure, but the fine days and clear nights suggested that Feilding would miss the rain, and liarvesting proceeded apace while threshing was also in train on many farms. Yesterday’s rainfall unfortunately obliged a halt to be called in the harvesting. The co-operative experiment of the Feilding Presbyterian and Methodist I Churches which commenced in January | was continued throughout February with ' outstanding success. The first Sunday '.evening service in February was taken j by the Rev. W. R. Hutchison, who preached his farewell sermon after supplying the Feilding congregation three months. The second Sunday service was conducted by Rev. Iv. A. Robinson in an impressive manner while on the third Sunday, the Rev. J. Hubbard (interim moderator) was the preacher and a full church was a most encouraging sight. The fourth Sunday evening, the Rev. W. T. Blight was the preacher and he intimated that this was the final in the series of a most interesting service, the experiment in Church cooperation having been thoroughly successful.
