Secondary School Tennis
Tho Secondary Schools’ annual tennis tournament was held on Saturday at the Linton Street courts under ideal weather conditions. This year two further cups were competed for, they being the Scott Cup presented by Dr. Frank Scott, to be held by the winning boy, and tho McDonald Cup presented by the Management Committee of the Manawatu Lawn Tennis Association, to be held by the winning girl. The latter cup lias been named tho McDonald Cup in recognition of the President a (Mr. J. T. McDonald) contribution to lawn tennis over a long period. Palmerston North Girls’ and Boys’ High Schools were again to the fore this year, winning a considerable number ot the events. Results of finals were as under: Girls’ Singles: M. Fraser (P.N.G.H.) v. P. Eglinton (P.N.G.H.) 7—3. Miss Fraser thus securing the McDonald Cup. Girls’ Doubles: P. Eglinton (P.N. G.H.) and P. Locker (P.N.G.H.) v M. Fraser (P.N.G.H.) and J. Maeken (P.N. 0.H.) 7—2. High School thus securing the Innes and Oakley Cup. Boys’ Singles: B. Lawrence (I.JN. 8.H.) v P. Peebles (Woodville) 9-—o. Lawrence thus securing the Scott Cup. Boys’ Doubles: Lawrenec and Heltawell (P.N.8.H.5.) v. Harding and Peebles (Woodville D.H.S.) 7—9. Woodvilla District High School thus secured the G. H. Benentt Cup. In a Manawatu Lawn Tennis Association Interclub B Grade game, Palmerston North ladies beat Takaro ladies by 5 sets to 1.
