RACING IN MEXICO CITY. | Facing is spreading iu spite of the war. Mexico City is completing a new and up-to-the-minute race track, which will be opened with a race meeting of “42 days or more,” beginning to-day. The racing strip will be 13-lGths of a mile in length (l-16th less than seven furlongs), and there will be “chutes’’ for six-furlong, one mile and nine-fur-iong races, enabling these to bo run over almost straight courses. The programme includes five “stakes” events to bo run on the last live Sundays of the meeting, and the prize money for these races will range from about £IOOO to £SOOO in English money. Apparently the grandstand, club house and stables, which are of steel and concrete, are of the latest

and, according to the schedule laid down, all buildings and the race track should by new be completed. Although Mexico City is at an altitude of about 7500 feet, it is stated that almost all types of feed are available at cheap rates, and Mexican labour can be got for about 3s a day. The Hancock totalisator will be used at the meeting, also 1 the Puett starting gate and a photo- : fipish camera.
