Speaker of Commons Dies Suddenly
KtTGBY, Mar. 3. The Speaker of the House of Commons, Captain the Rt. Hon. E. A Fitzßoy, member for Daventry, died yesterday. He had been in poor health for several months, but hoped to carry on through the war. He had been Speaker since 1928. It is 150 years since a Speaker died in office. The Evening Standard says that Mr. Churchill presided at a hurriedly summoned Cabinet meeting to consider the difficulty over the death of the Speaker, reports a London cable. A special Bill will probably have to be rushed through to meet the situation, which may otherwise result in an indefinite adjournment of Parliament. The Press Association says that no acting-Speaker will be elected. A message from the King at the next meeting of the House will ask members of the House of Commons to elect a Speaker. This will be done immediately without the necessity of the members being resworn.
