There was a good attendance at the weekly dance at the National Club. The lucky spot was won by Miss P. Wilson and Pte. G. Harvey and the Monte Carlo winners were Miss E. Skinner and Trooper R. K. Smith. Miss B. Algie was at the piano and extras were played by Miss N. Chamberlain. The duties of M.C. were carried out by Mr. H. A. Seifert, assisted by Mr. C. A. Driver, and the hostess was Mrs. Driver, who was assisted by Mesdames W. Wilson, R. Allison and Miss Farraher. The biennial meeting of the Central School ladies’ committee was held on Wednesday last, Mrs. D. Evans acting as chairman. Mrs. Evans intimated that she was not seeking re-election to the chair and thanked the ladies of the old committee for their support during her long term of office. Mr. Butler, on behalf of the school committee, and Mr. E. Bary, on behalf of the staff, both spoke highly of the work Mrs. Evans had done for the school. The following committee was elected: —Mesdames Anderson, Beale, Bodell, Butler (chairman), Croll, Evans, Farrar, Fitzgerald, Garden (secretary), Hammond, Murray, Ogier, Pearson, Riddle, Shelley, Stevens and Wesney. At a service prior to the meeting of St Peter's branch of the Mothers’ Union the address was given by Rev. Canon G. Y. Woodward, of All Saints' Church, who chose as his subject “Rogationtide,” It was announced at the meeting that Mrs. Gough, diocesan secretary of the Mothers’ Union, would address a special meeting in June. The next monthly meeting will be the birthday gathering. Two new members welcomed were Mrs. F. R. Holmes, who was a member of St. Peter’s branch before leaving to reside in New Plymouth, and who has now returned to Palmerston North, and Mrs. H. M. Osborne. Vocal solos by Mrs. Briglitwell were appreciated, also pianoforte solos by Miss E. M. Lancaster and elocutionary items by Miss L. Black. Tea hostesses were Mesdames H. Whittaker and Finch. The annual meeting of the Palmerston North Crippled Girls’ Club was held at the Y'.W.C.A. rooms on Saturday last. Mrs. W. G. Black was in the chair and extended a general welcome. Reviewing the year’s activities, she expressed pleasure in the varied and interesting programme the girls had arranged. Lectures and demonstrations on floral work, dress designing and Plunket work had been enjoyed and this year the arts and craft course had been undertaken. For the next few months it was proposed to do patriotic knitting. Officers were elected as follow: —Patroness, Miss E. M. Aitken; president, Mrs. W. G. Black; vice-presi-dents, Mesdames E. W. Mills, It. B. Robertson, Misses D. Irwin and G. Montgomery; chairman, Miss B, Askew; secretary, Miss J. Aisher; treasurer. Miss N. Trask.
