Obituary

MR. ROBERT GORDON Mr. Robert Gordon, who passed away at his residence in Ruahine Street, Palmerston North, on October 29 at the ripe age of 93 years, was born in Carlisle, Cumoerland, and at tho age of 15 years migrated to New Zealand with nis parents on board the West Australia. After a voyage lasting 110 rays, tliey landed at Wellington, and, following a few weeks' stay there, tney went to the Rangitikei district, where the late Mr. Gordon was engaged in farming pursuits for over 4u years, coming to live in this city in 1904. Mr. Gordon was one of the old pioneers of this country, and many stones he could tell of the early settlers carving out their homes in tne bush. He married, in 1885, the third daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William ivioxham, of Wellington. There were live children of the marriage, two of whom have passed away, the three surviving members being Mr. O. R. Gordon and Mrs. J. Dearlove (Palmerston North) and Mrs. C. Morris (Kairanga). There are also 15 grandchildren leit to mourn their loss. The late Mr. Gordon was an ardent church worker, being h. member of tho Methodist Church. He held office in the denomination for over 50 years and was the founder and superintendent of a Sunday school conducted in the old Upper Tutoenui day school. He was a regular member at *St. Paul’s Methodist Church, Broadway, up to ten weeks prior to his passing. He was very fond of his garden, and was often found with rake and hoe at work, laughing at the thought of giving up work at 93. He was confined to his bed for only two days before being called to the presence of his Lord, in Whom he kept simple faith for over 72 years. His end was peace and rest.
