MEAT SUPPLIES FOR BRITAIN
(British Official Wireless)
(Rec. 5, 12.45)
RUGBY, Nov. 4.
Information on different aspects of the food situation in Britain has been given by the Ministry of Food. New agreements, it says, have been reached for the supply of lamb, mutton, and beef from the Argentine, Uruguay, New Zealand, and Australia which amount to nearly a million tons of meat, and it is hoped that shortly a contract with Brazil also will be finalised.
The Ministry has evolved a scheme covering November to ensure greater
distribution of dried fruits, and people making Christmas puddings should secure the supplies during this month. Normally, about six ounces of dried fruits have been available per sugar registration. Now there will be an additional six ounces, mainly of currants, sultanas, and raisins, but with some prunes, figs, dried apples, and dried apricots.
