Women’s Institutes

RANGIOTU j Mrs. Eussell presided at the Octobei meeting when Mrs. Alve and Miss jNoeline Alve were welcomed as new j members. It was decided to hold the annual garden party on December 6 at ' Mrs. Buchanan’s home. Mrs. Millard has kindly offered to donate a cake for competition at the party. Mrs. Hill read the report of the council meeting held at Aokautere. An interesting and useful demonstration was given on wool mop making by Mrs. Bartlett. Competition winners were:—Sultana cake, Mrs. Jepsen 1, Mrs. Graham 2, Mrs. Walker 3; prettiest sandwich tray, Mrs. Ware 1, Mrs. Russell 2; bloom, Mrs. Pearce 1, Mrs. Hill 2, Mrs. Russell 3. The hostesses were Mesdames Buchanan and Pearce and Miss P. Gimlett. Next month's competitions will be three best novelties suitable for children’s party, and best collection of salad vegetables. There will also be an exhibition of antiques and curios. AOKAUTERE Mrs. Brunger presided over a good attendance at the November meeiing. Mesdames Honour and Brookfield were enrolled as new members. It was decided to make' a presentation to Mrs. Clausen who has resigned from the Institute, having moved from the district. It was proposed that each member give one shilling to buy cakes for the floral festival. Word w r as received that Messrs. Riddle and T. Hopcroft had received institute parcels sent to them. A Christmas tea party is to be given to the children of the district instead of a Christmas tree. Mrs. Brookfield gave an interesting talk on floral decorations. A pianoforte solo was presented by Miss D. McKinlay. Competitions resulted:—Seniors, a clear glass table vase of spring flowers, Miss 1. Anderson 1, Mrs. R. J. Tate 2, Mrs. Orr 3; juniors, knitted tea cosy, Miss H. Lank--1 shear I, Miss E. Petersen 2; garden circle, three spring flowers, Miss I. Anderson I, Mrs. McFarlane 2, Mrs. Orr and Mrs. R. J. Tate equal 3; bloom, Iceland poppy, Mrs. E. Atkinson 1, Mrs. R. J. -Tate 2, Mrs. Orr 3; refugee gar- ’ ment, baby s rompers (senior), Mrs. Brungar 1, Mrs. Chowen 2, Mrs. McFarlane 3; (juniors) Miss E. Petersen I, Miss D. McKinlay 2, Miss 11. Lankshear 3. The monthly Id competition donated by Mrs. Collin, was won by Mrs. R. J. Tate, and the lucky number by Mrs. Orr. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames McFarlane, Kyle and Riddle. December competitions will be:—Seniors and juniors, a novelty to cost noe more than 2s 6d; bloom, rose; garden circle, Victorian posy 4inches in diameter; refugee garment, boy’s pullover, with or without sleeves from renovated wool; the monthly Id competition by Mrs. L. Craven. The hostesses for December, Mesdames Scott, Craven and H. RobertBon. A meeting is to be held at the hall on Wednesday, November 19, to pack refugee garments, ladies a plate.
