Show Cattle at Addington Sale

CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 0. j The Grand National fat stock show, judging in which Avas held on Tuesday, and Addington sale to-day drew exceptionally heavy entries, show cattle boiug forward from all parts of Canterbur}*, Central Otago and Southland. These sold at good commercial values but in no case at fancy figures. Tho top priced slioav steer, from Rangiora, sold at £29 17s Gd, and others at £2S. The best pen of three went at £27 and other pens at £2G 10s down to £24. Central Otago steers sold at from £24 5s down and Southland at £22. The champion heifer, from Banks Peninsula, sold at £2G 10s, other good heifers selling at up lo £l9. The total entry numbered 790 head with all classes represented. For ordinary commercial cattle there was little change in the market from a week ago. Good beef brought from 42s to 44s per lOOlbs.. medium to good 39s to 41s, ordinary 36s to 38s Gd. Store sheep: Small yarding, mostly ewes of good class. The best of the two-tooths, to lamb early, made 34s Gd, and sound-mouth ewes to 24s Gd. Ordinary sound-mouth ewes made 17s to 20s. ‘ Spring lambs: About 50 spring lambs came forward, but a proportion were late hoggets. There was a keen sale, and the best of the real spring lambs ranged from 30s to 35s with a few tops to 40s. Averago quality sold from 24s to 27s Gd and hoggets at about the same values. Fat sheep: An entry of more than 8000 head, about double tho usual size; included a good showing of quality. The entry camo from wide afield including tho North Island. Tho market was erratic but generally Avas about a good Is lower than a week ago, with heavy, tallowy sorts from 2s to 3s lower. Best wethers made from 29s to 335, with special pens to 40s. Best CAves made from 24s to 28s ; and tops to 34s 4d. Fat pigs: The porker entry Avas reduced in numbers, and there was a sharp improvement in values of 2s to 4s a head. Prices ranged from £2 Is 6d to £3 9s Gd, average price per lb. Sfd to OJd. Baconers showed little change, ranging from £3 9s Gd to £4 Gd, average per lb. GJd to Gld.
