Manawatu Trotting Club

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING MR. W. MOULDEW RE-ELECTED PRESIDENT Mr. W. Mouldey (president) was in the chair at lasi evening’s annual meeting of the Manawatu Trotting Club. There was a satisfactory attendance, considering that there was no need for an election. Tho report (already published) and balance-sheet were taken as read and, moving their adoption, Mr. Mouldey said it was no good, crying over spil't milk. The past year had been a bad one and Manawatu had suffered through bad weather and through not being on a circuit of meetings. He felt that the coming year would bo more successful. Mr. A. W. Yortts asked what steps W4jre taken by tho committee to see whether win-and-placc betting should aot be adopted. Mr. A. H. Manson said that steps had been taken to have wm-aud-place betting but that it had been at the request of the Manawatu Racing Club that single-pool betting had been' continued. Mr. i'ortt thought the matter should again bo explored this year. Mr. Manson said all arrangements had Deen made last year and provision had been made for a manual machine to bo worked with the electric machine.

Mr. Jos. Batchelar; I think win-and-piaco is tho better system but, placed as we are, we have to work in with the Racing Club.

Mr. C. P. Nash: I believe that it would cost the Racing Club £16,000 to change over to tiie win-and-place machine.

Mr. F. Pycroft: I understand 4he Racing Club intends to rnako t'he change

Mr. A. W. Sutton: Our loss last year was due to circumstances over which tho club had no control.

In answ 7 er to Mr. Sutton, Mr. Manson explained that for some years the Government reduced the totalisator tax to 4 per cent, but that last year clubs were required to pay the 5 per cent. Mr. Sutton congratulated the president and the other office-oearers on their re-election and on the w T ork done by the executive during the past. Mr. S. W. R. Evans moved, as a recommendation to tho incoming committee, that win-and-placo betting be decided upon for the next meeting. This was seconded by Mr. Sutton and carried. The report and balance-sheet were adopted after a general discussion. Election of Officers. The election of officers resulted aa under: —Patron, Mr. J. Hodgens, M.P.; president, Mr. W. Mouldey; vice-presi-dents, Messrs H. J. Wooafield, B. J. Jacobs, Jos. Batchelar, A. MacDonald and Colonel J. H. Whyte, D. 5.0., D.C.M.; hon. treasurer, Mr. U. P. Nash; auditor, Mr. T. K. Fraser;, committee, Messrs W. R. Dougias, K. Emmett, S. W. R. Evans and F. Smith.

Declaring the above gentlemen elected, Mr. Mouldey welcomed Mr. Evans to the new committee.

Votes of tnanks weer accorded the Manawatu Racing Cluo, the press and the club’s officials.

Mr. Batchelar, moving a vote of thanks to the president, congratulated him on his wonderful work for the cluo during his term of office and particularly ‘through a very difficult year. This was carried by acclamation. Mr. Yortt said there was one thing he wished to refer to and that was the question of the stakes to be offered for the next meeting. He explained that in his opinion the club should be getting better results. He moved: “That it be a recommendation from this meeting that the committee use every endeavour to see that the stakes given last year be maintained." Mr. W. Dustin seconded the motion and it was carried. Before tho meeting closed it was agreed that the memoership should be increased and the president asked that everybody should make a special effort to enrol one or more new members. Mr. Dustin made mention of the fact that Mr. H. E. Mouldey had, through

illness, not offered himself for re-elec-tion to tho committee, and he asked that a letter be sent Mr. Mouldey thanking him for his work as a committeeman and expressing the hope for his speedy recovery. This was seconded in several places and carried. After the meeting adjourned Mr. A. MacDonald and Mr. W. Dustin entertained members at supper.
