Pigs, Poultry and Produce
The Dominiou Auctioneering Co., Ltd., Palmerston North, reports conducting a very buoyant sale of pigs and poultry at their usual weekly fair held on Thursday. Pigs were in exceptionally good demand, weaners realising up to 18s 6d, stores to 30s, and young porkers to 445. Poultry also sold well, 8.0. hens realising 4s with a corresponding good demand for other lines. Fruit was in short supply resulting in higher prices being realised. Exceptionally heavy supplies of vegetables came forward, a considerable reduction in prices being noted. Pigs. —Weaners, 17s to 18s each; slips, 19s 6d to 21s; stores, 22s to 30;s light porkers, 375, 39s 6d, 43s to 445. Poultry.—Heavy 8.0. hens, 8s to 8s 4d per pair; best W.L. hens, 5s 6d to 6s 6d per pair; light hens, 4s to 5s per pair; young ducks, 7s Cd to 8s 6d per pair; old ducks, 5s to Cs 6d per pair; pullets, 4s 5d to 5s 2d each; breeding cockerels, heavy 8s to 9s per pair, light 6s to 7s per pair. Produce. —Apples: Delicious 12s to 14s 6d; Jonathans, 9s to 9s 6d; Romo Beauties, 7s to 9s; Granny Smiths, Ss to 8s 6d; Sturmers, 6s to 8s 6d; Frimley Beauties, 7s to 8s 6d; Docherties, 6s .to Ss; Statesman, 7s to 9s; Ballarats, Ss to 9s 6d. Pears: Winter Cole, 12s 6d to 14s 9d; cookers, 6s 6d to 7s 6d. Tomatoes: 2s to 3s. Cauliflowers: 4s to 8s per sack. Cabbage: 2s to 10s per sack. Pumpkins: 11s 6d to 14s. Marrows: 4s to 8s per case. Carrots: 4s to 5s per sugar-bag. Parsnips: 4s to 5s per sugarbag. Celery: 2s to 5s per ease. Lettuce: 6s to 10s j)er case. Spinach: 6s to 16s 6d per case. Silver-beet: 3s to Cs per case.
