Feilding Returned Soldiers
MEETING OF THE ASSOCIATION At a meeting of the Feilding branch of the Returned Soldiers’ Association on Thursday evening it was decided to seek a direction from headquarters on the subject of a proposal of the Auckland Association to provide a memorial for the late Sir George Richardson.
In connection with circulars from headquarters dealing with the application of tho social security charges to war pensioners, it was explained that where a returned man was in receipt ot a pension respecting total disability for service in any of his Alajesty’s forces, he was exempt from liability for the quarterly charge. It was necessary for him, however, to apply for exemption. All recipients of Avar pensions were exempt from payment of the social security charge of Is in the £ on the amount of such pensions. Letters on the subject of the visit of the Australian Contingent to New Zealand next April were received from headquarters and it was agreed to fall into line with the arrangements and to co-operate with Palmerston North in connection with the visit of the quota to this district.
The question of conducting a second ladies’ evening was deferred until the next meeting of the committee. The meeting carried a resolution congratulating all members, of tho local territorial unit and recording appreciation of tho excellent work of Mr. C. A. R. Loch in organising the formation of the two platoons. The meeting agreed to accord the unit its wholehearted support.
