THE LITTLE PAPER MAN

Snip-snap, the little paper man step ped out of the paper as Jill finished cut ting him and made her a stiff little bow .Till was so surprised that she laughed and blew him flat on his back. But she stopped laughing when she saw hen upset he was and helped him to his feet again. “What can I do for you?” she asked for she was a polite little girl. “I would like a red coat,” he said. So Jill cut him out a red coat and hung it on his shoulders with tabs. The little paper man strutted proudly round in his new red coat. “Now I want a blue hat with a yellow feather in it,” he said. So Jill cut him a fine blue paper hat and stuck a big yellow feather in it. “Thats right,” said Snip-Snap, and strutted about prouder than before. Then he raised his new hat and said good-bye. “I must be going home,” said he. “But where do you live?” asked Jill. “Nowhere at present,” said SnipSnap. “I’m just thinking of going house-hunting. There must be a paper village somewhere with a house to let.” So Jill folded a little paper aeroplane and sat Snip-Snap in it and carried it to the window. Then she gave a big puff and off went the aeroplane in the breeze with Snip-Snap holding on with ono hand and waving his blue paper hat with the other. Copied by Tom Mix. (Continued next week). CALIPH Caliph is the name given to the heads of the Moslem faith, and means successor—that is, successor to Mahomet. At first, the title could only be borne by direct descendants of the Prophet, but only four so-called perfect caliphs reigned after Mahomet at Medina. Then others of the Prophet’s tribe succeeded. There were 13 caliphs at Damascus between CGI and 750, and 37 at Bagdad between that date and 1258, when the Turks overthrew the old dynasty. King Farouk of Egypt created a sensation recently when he replaced the priest who was conducting a service at the Quosoun Mosque, after which the congregation hailed him as Caliph of Islam. His action is accepted as a sign that he is willing to assume world leadership of Islam.
