LITTLE DEMAND FOR STUD CATTLE

Stortford Lodge Sale MANY PASSINGS AT FIGURES BELOW RESERVES From Our Own Corrwfpondent. HASTINGS, June 22. The offering of the females was most disappointing to vendors and out of the 39 offered only six were sold, these being the lots on account of Mr J. G. Hewitt. Most of the lots were passed without a bid. The top price for Mr Hewitt’s females was 30gns. paid for each of two heifers in calf the purchaser being Mr P. J. Borthwick. The remaining four were purchased by Mr J. S. McLeod at prices ranging from lOgns. to 12gns. The bulls generally were characteristic of the breed, being low set and of the type required for developing the chilling industry. The market, however, remained very quiet and passings were frequent at figures much below the reserves. The bidding for most lots lacked confidence, despite the breeding shown. All except two of the bulls were two-year-olds. They contained a good infusion of imported blood, which have produced well in New Zealand. The top price for the first 35 bulls offered was 43gns. for an entry on account of Mr J. A. Macfarlane, Glen Aros, the purchaser being Mr F. Bonner, of Mangaweka. Later in the sale the top price realised was 47gns. for a bull offered on account of Mr J. A. Macfarlane, the buyer being Mr W. H. Meech, of Taradale. Out of the first 59 bulls offered 32 were sold under the hammer. The top price of the sale was Signs, for a bull on account of the Estate of W. A. Macfarlane. being purchased by Akitio Station.
