Miss Ethna Hill, of Kopane, whose marriage to Mr W. Gloyn takes place this week, has been the guest of honour at a number of functions held throughout the district. Mr and Mrs A. S. Pcdley held a jolly “pantry" evening at their home last Friday evening. The evening passed happily with games and competitions, and just prior to tho delicious supper which was served by the hostess, Mr Pedley called on Miss Hill and Mr Gloyn to open the numerous parcels. These disclosed many useful gifts, aud Mr Gloyn in a brief 'speech thanked all the friends who had been so generous and also Mr and Mrs I Pcdley for the delightful evening they [had arranged.
Among those present were Mr and I Mrs li. Gloyn, the Misses A. and E. Hunt, P. and B. Hill, M. Huddleston, D. Kempton, L. Pedley, M. Pearson, J. aud G. Gloyn, and Messrs J. Gloyn, M. Hud* dleston, M. Lind, C. Hunt, G. and T. Pearson, F. Woods.
On Monday evening Miss Hill was the guest of the Methodist Church and Sunday school, when a programme of musical items, games and competitions was thoroughly enjoyed. Miss Hill has been connected with the church and Sunday school from childhood, and for a number of years has been secretary and a valued member of the teaching staff of the Sunday school. The Bev. C. M. Boberts, who presided, paid tribute to the sterling qualities of the guest of honour, stating that a home built on such solid foundations of Christian character was bound to be blessed. Mr Boberts then asked Miss Hill to accept a large crystal bowl with the best wishes of all present for the future happiness of herself and Mr Gloyn. Miss Hill’s interest in the sport or the district was recognised when a kitchen evening was held in her honour at the home of Mr and Mrs Parsons, Karere. Members of the Basketball Association were present and provided the bride-to-be with many and varied useful articles for her kitchen.
Another pleasing function took place on tho courts of the Kopane Tennis Club on Saturday afternoon, when Miss Boddy called on Miss Hill to accept a dinner wagon from the members of tho club, as a mark of their esteem, and appreciation of her very helpful association with the club.
