Call to the Church
TO SAVE DISORDERED WORLD “The call to church people to-day is to let their Christianity shine before men," declared Canon G. Y. Woodward, vicar of All Saints’, Palmerston North, when speaking at the annual meeting of parishioners last evening. "Tho Church of God is made up of Christians and to it a disturbed and disordered world is looking for light. Can the Church disentangle the evil skeins that are impeding the way of peace and happiness for mankind? We are face to face with tremendous and intricate problems—moral, national, economic and social—so that men and women are often so bowildered that they do not know where to turn for consolation. History shows us that when the church attaches itself to the powers of this world, it gives no guiding light but when it puts its trust in the strength of the spirit of God. it becomes a shining light pointing unmistakeably the way to happiness. If the church to-day is to be a beacon light, it must remember that God’s spirit and His spirit only, can carry us safely through the changes and chances of this mortal life. We ask, can the church save the world? I believe it can if its members, by the light of the Holy Spirit, are presenting Christ in a practical life as tho living Maste. and King, the enemy of wrong and selfishness, the power and righteousness and love. That is the call to us in the year that is before us."
