Gaoled for Assault
Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, April 26. Two charges of assaulting former pupils in his Bible class were heard to-day in the Magistrate’s Court before Mr. C. R. Orr-Walker. S.M. against Harry Arthur Bright, frged 27, a clerk in the Government service. He pleaded guilty to assaulting a girl on March 27 and another girl on April 18. The police said that Bright was a married man with one child. One of the girls concerned in the case, wht. was now 17, said that when she was 15 she was inviting to the accused’s home, Bright telling her that he wanted her to sign mission papers. When she arrived she found Bright’s wife noi at home. Intercourse took place, also on four or five other occasions until a year ago. The second girl in the case was 14 years old. Counsel for Bright said that a foolish* attachment* had grown up between him and the elder girl, it was Obundaritly clear that Bright must lose his grading, a report having already gone to the PubliO Service Commissiorter. His wife had bravely forgiven him.
On the first charge he was sentenced to three weeks’ imprisonment, and on the second he was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence it called upon within 12 months.
