Palmerston North Fire Board

ANNUAL MEETING HELD The annual meeting of the Palmerston North Fire Board was held yesterday. Mr. A. E. Mansford presided and present were Messrs. L. H. Collinson, V. M. Edgar, A. Grigor, L. A. Hutton and the secretary, Mr. C. V. Day. As it involved a matter of precedent, it was decided to inform tho Manawatu Racing Club that the board could not entertain the responsibility of sending a machine to the club’s premises In the event of a lire. The board’s first duty, it was pointed out, was to the city. Although the Railway Department wrote offering £5 5s a year for fire protection at Milson settlement the board decided that the only satisfactory terms were those in force in similar circumstances elsewhere, £5 5s annual retainer and £5 for each call. The department is to be notified to that effect. A fire-alarm call box is to be installed at the intersection ot Featherstone and Vogel Streets. The estimates showing receipts and expenditure of £9393 Ss were approved. This amount is £2064 less than last
