April Bride in Charming Satin Gown
SMITH—FRECKLINGTON All Saints* Church, Palmerston North, was the scene of a very pretty wedding on the evening of April 14 when Nancy Mary, younger daughter of Mr. and Mrs. B. J. Frecklington, “Homewood,** Ohakea, was married to John Holmes, 8.E., B.Sc., A.M.1.C.E., elder son of Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Smith, Wellington. Rev. N. Barnett, of Bulls, was the officiating minister, and Mr. J. Holmes Runnicles presided at the organ. The bride entered the Beautifully decorated church escorted by her father and was wearing a charming old-world gown of stiffened wax satin with allover embroidery. The bodice was cut high to the neck with tiny self buttons, back and front; leg o’ mutton sleeves and the exceptionally full skirt stood out from the waist and swept to a long train. A beautifully embroidered matching cream veil formed a second train and was held to the head with two velvet gardenias. An exquisite shower bouquet of Easter lilies and gladioli with a long trail to the hem of the frock completed a most attractive toilette. In attendance were a tall trio of ’maids dressed exactly alike. They were Miss Jean Hamilton (chief), Miss Flora Smith (sister of the bridegroom) and Miss Mysie Anderson (Ohakea). Their frocks were of delphinium blue chiffon over satin and wero cut with full skirts and bodices and puff sleeves. Blue veils were unusually arranged to a point over the forehead and were caught each side with a rose pink carnation. Their trailing bouquets were of rose pink gladioli and carnations, tied with silver ribbons.
The bridegroom was supported by his brother, Mr. R. J. Smith, of Auckland, as best man, and Mr. J. Frecklington (brother of the bride) and Mr. R. J. Seward, of Wellington, as groomsman. Ushers at the church were Messrs C. Grace and S. Frecklington. At the reception the usual toasts were honoured, Mr. A. K. Drew being a most efficient toastmaster. In the unfortunate absence of the bride’s mother through illness, the guests were received by the bride *s sister, Mrs. E. HazledineBarber, of Ngatea, assisted by the bridegroom’s mother, Mrs. J. O. Smith. The former’s frock was a model of chiffon velvet and a pretty posy of scarlet rosebuds was carried. Mrs. Smith was wearing black silk velvet with gold shoulder spray and a musquash coat. Later the bride appeared for travelling in a tailored navy suit with scalloped edges, pointed crown nat, scarlet and white cravat and navy accessories.
Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Smith will make their future home at Ngaio, Wellington.
