Mr Nash Going Home

Will Discuss Trade, Loan and Defence LEAVING NEXT SUNDAY Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Last Night. Tho Minister of Finance (Hon. W. Nash) will leave Wellington next Gunday night to catch the Alonterey at Auckland, on his way to London, where he is to discuss, ou behalf of the New Zealand Government, questions concerning trade relationships betwqen the Dominion and Great Britain in the light of various changes that have been made recently. Another question that concerns his visit is that relating to the loan that is falling due at the end of this year, and he will also exchange talks about defence. He expects to return to New Zealand in July. - This announcement was made by the Prime Alinister (Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage) early this afternoon, following a special meeting of Cabinet. “The three questions that Air. Nash will discuss are so related that it is almost impossible to separate them,” said the Prime Alinister, “and Mr. Nash’s presence in England would be justified in discussing any one of them. No one could say that we should not have all the standing and appreciation of our mutual interests that we could have. ”

Mr. Savage said he was to receive that afternoon the report from the Pacific Defence Confcrene, which has just concluded. It would not be much good to New Zealand if ho simply took the report and locked it up in his safe for 12 months. The Government was anxious to see it implemented as far as possible, and though they had had every assistance from those who had been associated with the work, the Government felt that the sooner they brought the personal touch into tho matter the better.

“There are a thousand and one things involved in the question of defence,” said Mr. yavage. “It involves, for instance, the question of supplies of all kinds, not only for New Zealand, but for Great Britain. We know what tho report of the conference asks us to do, and our job is to push on with it to the utmost with the principals concerned. ’ ’

During Air. Nash’s absence the Prime Alinister will look after the portfolio of Finance, Hon. W. E. Parry will have Social Security, Hon. W. L. Martin Alarketing, and Hon. Alark Fagan Customs,
