Batsmen Collapse Frequently Cricket in Palmerston North on Saturday was patchy but taken by and large, batsmen were not in form. One hat trick was recorded. Wickets fell: 1 for 9,2 for 15, 3 for 22, 4 for 30, 5 for 43. Bowling: Baigent 3 for 25, Murchison 1 for 17. SENIOR B Old Boys turned the tables on Combined Services. The formor mado 80 first innings to which Services replied with 210. The Old Boys tried again and ran up the creditable total of 251 (Clifford 81, McSkimming 41, Trow S 3, Gatley 25, Annear 23, McPherson 16). This left Services wanting 121 runs but they were dismissed for 87 (Oman 24, EUey 18, Blummont 18). Trow took 5 wickets for 21 and Gatley 2 for 25. High School secured an eight-point win over Kia Toa. On the opening day. School compiled 330 for the Joss of seven wickets and declared at that total. Kia Toa found the task of passing that figure too much for them and were all out for 257. Tho principal scorers were Wasley (46), Weston (43), McLean (37), Harvey (33), Topee (19). Eight sixes were hit by the Kia Toa batsmen, four by Wasley and three by Weston. School’s most successful bowlers were Pegden (three for 12), Anderson (two for 7) and Cameron (two for 83). JUNIOR A Old Boys secured an outright win over City. The former made 134 first innings, City replying with 153. With 173 on the board for the loss of 7 wickets, Old Boys declared their second strike. This left City 155 behind but they were all out for 16. A valiant effort was made to play out time which would have given City the victory on tho first innings. Best scorers for Old Boys were Northover 30, Siddells 29, McLaclilan 29 not out, Anderson 27. Bowling for Old Boj’s Ryan took 2 wickets for 7 runs, Anderson 5 for three runs and Nansett one for no runs. Combined Services secured an eight point win over Kia Toa who mado 6.3 first innings and 171 second strike (Brown 52, Spelman 39, McCormac 37, Baigent 21). Services made 166 first innings and only needed 79 for a win. They made 81 with the loss of three wickets only (Woodley 30, Coles 24 not out, F. Hart 19). Among Services’ bowlers, Elley took 4 for 32, F. Hart 3 for 41. Y.M.C.A. succeeded in registering an eight-point win over High School. On the opening day Y.M.C.A. mado 180 in their first strike, to which School replied with 138 for nine wickets (declared). In their second innings Y.M.C.A. declared with 163 on for the loss of six wickets (Hicken 59, Gilliand 44, Maxwell 34). Waters took two for 33, and Mason three for 49. School were dismissed in their second innings for 94 (Shadbolt 20, Poananga 15, Waters 13). Bowling for Y.M.C.A., Smith took two for five, Algie two for five, and Burton three for 18. Optimists secured an eight-point win over United, the latter being dismissed in their second innings for 40. Kempson took seven for 12, after hitting up S 7 for Optimists.
