EVENTS BEGIN AT DUNEDIN Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, Last Night. There was a fair attendance at the opening events of the New Zealand amateur cycling championships, which commenced at the Caledonian Grounds this overling. In the 1000 metres time trial R. Ulmer (Wellington) and D. L. Thomson (Canterbury) fought out the race, the former winning by two-fifths of a second. Heats were also run in the half-mile junior championship, one mile open handicap and teams championship,
and these events will be completed tomorrow. Results:—

Half-mile junior championship.—First heat: H. R. Baldwin (A.) 1, R. 11. Knight (C.) 2, J. Croskery (W.) 3. Won by half a length. Time, Imin. 8 4-ssec. Second heat: J. G. Crofts (C.) I, A. Annand (O.) 2, S. F. Webber (W.) 3. Won by a length with half a length between second, and third. Time, Imin. 11 4-ssec. Third licat: H. Williams (H. 8.) 1, J. P. Burns (W.) 2, C. R. Evans (C.) 3. Time, Imin. 8 4-ssec. Baldwin, Crofts, Williams and Burns qualified to meet in the final. One mile open handicap. —First heat: J. Alullally (C.), 3 20yds., 1. Time, 2 min. IS 4-ssec. Second heat: H.
