Arab Independence

CONFERENCE DISCUSSION (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, Feb. 16. Tho Colonial Secretary, Mr. Malcolm MacDonald, at the Palestine Conference, discussing the demand for an independent Arab State, certain general suggestions which, it was made clear, were not in any way to bo regarded as proposals, but wero designed to the show in the light of existing facts what might be an alternative to the Arab claims. The Palestine Arabs represented that tho existence of an independent Arab State would not bo incompatible with the security of the Jewish minority. A meeting of the Government Palestine delegation yesterday agreed that a committee should be set up to consider in greater detail some of the points raised regarding the McMahon correspondence. There was also a meeting of the Jewish and United Kingdom representatives, and it is hoped that it will be possiblo very shortly to deal with some detailed aspects of the Palestine problem, such as immigration, land sales and constitutional matters ns they interest the Jews.
