Ashhurst Domain Popular Resort
VENUE OF MANY FIONICS The popularity of the Ashhurst Domain as a picnic resort is evidenced by facts and figures which the caretaker placed before a mooting of the Domain Board. So far this season, the Domain has been let for 17 picnics, which is a record for many years. Application for the use of the Domain for picnics has boen granted for February 17 (Ashhurst School), February IS (Whakarongo Public School and Women’s Institute), February 22 (Milson School), February 24 (Raumai School), February 25 (Taouui School), March 4 (combined district Methodist Church picnic), March II (Evangical Church), and March IS (Colyton School. Tho caretaker reportod that during tho past eight weeks some 99 cars had been in the Domain on Sundays and week days—excluding picnic days. Visitors to the Domain with cars were requested to refrain from motoring over the picnic ground but to pass in front of the caretaker’s cottage to a car parking area recently cleared for the purpose. This area is sheltered and close to the sheds and swings. Hot water may be procured from the carotaker at a small charge. For tho guidance of visitors who are not aquainted with the bush, tho track leading from the back of the shelter sheds leads to the terrace and following down tho bank clearly defined tracks lead to the river and traffic bridge. Sign posts at the bottom of tho Domain clearly indicate tho direction. Many peoplo do not realise the extent of the native bush in the bottom reserve but coniine their walks to tho upper portion. The Domain u in excellent condition and visitors are requested to make use of the rubbish tins to deposit all paper, etc., therein.
