Motor-cyclists Meet
REGARDING SAFETY CAMPAIGN I A meeting of motor-cyclists of the Pahiatua district was held in Bentley’s tearooms on Wednesday night, Dr. E. B. Watson presiding over a fair attendance. Dr. Watson outlined the reason for the meeting, explaining that the motor-cycle organisation of the Dominion had been aslced by Hon. R. Semple to appoint officers to control the behaviour of motor-cyclists. These officers would have certain powers and after a warning could report offenders to the police, who would deal with the culprit. The officers would be provided with a badge and they would be required to act not only in their own district but in any other district in w r kich they might bo. Their evidence in the case of an accident would be taken in a court of law in the same way as police evidence. The chairman then called for nominations for the above position and Messrs W. Skilton and T. Swanney were elected to represent the Pahiatua district. Dr. Watson impressed on the officers elected that their duties were to prevent rather than to penalise, but said if a person continually offended then it was their duty to report the offender to the police to take action.
