Injuries Not Very Serious
DANCE PARTY IN CROSSING SMASH Inquiries made at the Palmerston North Hospital last evening elicited the information that the three persona who were admitted early yesterday morning as a result of the taxi in which they were travelling erashiug into a northbound goods train at about 1.50 a.m., did not sustain injuries of a really serious nature. One of them, Miss tingles, of 369 Ruahine street, who was suffering from shock, is expected to be discharged to-day. The other two are:— Miss M. Isaacs, of 369 Ruahine street, broken leg, cuts on the head, still on the seriously ill list. Air. J. Woods, of Whakarongo, severe concussion, condition little ajtered but considered satisfactory. The escape of the party, which was returning from the Manawatu Scottish Society Gathering of the Clans, was nothing short of miraculous. The taxi was proceeding up Ruahine street towards Church street, when it met tho engine square on, and waa hurled across the line for several yards, ending up at right angles. Aliss Isaacs and a fourth passenger, Air. J. Millar, of 2A Andrew Young street, were hurled about 30ft. distant, the latter being none the worse for his experience, escaping unscathed. The most remarkable escape of all was that of the driver, Air. J. J. F. Levens, as the drivers’ door received the main force of the impact with the engine’s fender was well smashed in. Air. Levens, however, suffered only min6r injuries to his knees and a slight wound on his head. The car was considerably battered, but not a total wreck. The driver and guard of the train were Messrs. Alefcer and Denham.
