Manawatu Co-operative Women’s Guild
SECOND ANNUAL MEETING. Tho second annual meeting of the Manawatu Co-operative Women’s Guild was held in tho Y.W.C.A. rooms on Tuesday afternoon, Mrs O. Niederer presiding over a good attendance. The annual report was presented by the president and secretary, Mrs Scott and the treasurer, Mrs Cantlon presenting the balance-sheet which showed a very satisfactory position. President’s Report. The president’s annual report stated inter alia: “The annual meeting is one of stock-taking, when members review the past year’s activities and make plans for the future, always keeping in mind the aims and objects of the work —co-operating and working together for the good of all. The year has been one of progress, with meetings fairly well attended and of particular interest to all. ’ * The report went on to recapitulate the various activities, such as addresses, displays and social functions, including the birthday celetions and children’s party, also functions hold in conjunction with the men’s guild. Thanks were expressed to all which had assisted in any way. Expressing personal thanks for loyalty, the president concluded: “The greatest thing in the world to-day is co-operation. Our co-operativo ideals must come first and wherever we are wc must put forth the co-operative solution to our problems. We must learn unity of purpose, to rise above personal disputes, and remember that the spirit of the co-operative movement and its practical application are of the. greatest importance. Moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, Mrs Niederer thanked ail those who had co-operated and assisted her through the past year, and urged the same support to the incoming committee and officers conveying wishes for another successful and happy year. The motion was seconded by Mrs Kennedy who endorsed the president s remarks. Election of Officers. Officers were elected as follows: ■ President, Mrs O. Niederer (unopposed); vice-president, Mrs Harrod; commit tee, Mrs A. Mason, Mrs Kennedy, Mrs F. Robertson, Mrs Evans and Miss Ranstron. The secretary and treasurer will be elected at tho first meeting of the committee. Mrs Niederer congratulated one of our members, Mrs Mason, on being nominated to stand for tho Hospital Board un’d wished her success on behalf of* the guild, mentioning that the co-operative society was non-political. Afternoon tea was then dispensed by the hostesses, after which Mrs Barton gave a talk on her trip round the South island of New Zealand, having just returned. Soon she will be leaving for Australia and America then back to England. Mrs Robertson moved a vote of thanks to Mrs Barton saying how sorry the members were that sfle could not continue her sojourn in the Dominion but 'in wishing her bon voyage hoped she would enjoy her trip knowing the co-operative movement would benefit as the result of her visit. Mrs Canton seconded the motion endorsing what the mover had said.
After votes of thanks to the retiring officers and the president was passed, the meeting closed.
