5 From Our Own CorresDondent Owing to an unexpected change in the weather, tlio official closing of tlie Marton Lawn Tennis Club was held in the Jockey Club rooms instead of at the tennis courts. Mr M. C. Fenwick presided over a good attendance. Mr Fenwick© stated that the courts had stood up to the hard play very well. The season had been a successful one and the standard of play had improved to a remarkable extent, the club being able to hold its own against all visitors. He thanked the committee, and particularly Mr D. E. Fair, the secretary, for the way in which they ail had performed their duties; and also Miss Harding, who had undertaken- tho catering for afternoon teas. He then asked Mrs Fenwicke to present tho trophies, and expressed his congratulation to the winners and his sympathy to the losers. Mr L. E. Torrens moved a hearty vote of thanks to Mr Fenwick© for his services to tne club : during the season. This was carried by acclamation. The trophy winners were as follows:—Men: Championship singles, (Wheeler Rosebowl), Mr Noel Ingle; championship doubles, Messrs A. L. Wheeler and W. A. Sawyer; handicap singles, Mr K. C. Billing; handicap doubles Messrs M. Mae Lean and K. C. Billing; handicap combined doubles (Gibbon's Rose Bowl), Mr Iv. C. Billing and Miss O. J. Barton. Ladies: Championship singles (cup presented by Mr A. W. Low), Mrs M. Thompson; championship doubles, Mrs C. Reynolds and Mrs M. Fenwicke; handicap singles, Miss M. Denbow; handicap doubles, Miss M. Denbow and Miss X Hutton. Hockfry. At a meeting of the Rangitikei Hockey Sub-Association held on Friday evening it was decided to cany on the competitions this season. This was very gratifying, considering that earlier in the season, at the annual meeting, it was thought that the club might have to be dorihant thii season owing to the possibility or there being insufficient teams available. Mr W. G. Aitken presided and stated that arrangements had been made during the past week for a team representing Rata and Putorino to enter the competition. It was stated that United and Tutaenui had combined. With these two teams, and those of Kia Ora and Halcombe..it would be possible to run a competition. Messrs A. M. Smart and A. Gracie were appointed as a fixture committee. It was decided to hold a seven-a-side competition for the Linkfield Rose Bowl on April 27, and also to hold two local and one open seven-a-side, and one open eleven-a-side during the season. The meeting recommended that the eleven-a-side be played on June 29, before the game against the Englisn team at Feilding on July 12. The meeting closed with a vote of thanks to Mr
