PERSONALITIES

The committee of the Auckland Racing Club has decided to accept the resignation of Mr R. B. Lusk as judge at Ellerslie and to appoint Mr E. V. Sutherland to the position for the Great Northern meeting. They placed on record the long and valuable services Mr Lusk had rendered to the club as judge. He was appointed in 1901.—-Press Assn. Verbal intimation has been given the committee of the Palmerston North City Silver Band by the conductor, Mr W. O ’Hara, of his intention to relinquish the position as he finds that he has not the time available that is required for the conductorship. Air O’Hara has been conductor of the band for about four years. No decision as to his successor lias yet been made. Air W. E. G. Paqualin, who has been manager of the Palmerston North branch of the Union Bank of Australia for the past two years, and who has received notice of his transfer, on promotion, to the Dunedin branch of tho bank, leaves for the southern centre on Saturday with Airs Paqualin. Mr Paqualin came to Palmerston North from the Wanganui branch and has made many friends iu this city. His position at Palmerston North has been taken by Mr J. B. Stewart, formerly of the Whakatane branch, who has taken up his new duties. The late Air. Frederick Charles Norton, who was killed in an accident at the Milson aerodrome on Monday, was 54 years of age. For some years he had a garage in Coleman Place, Wanganui, and it was while he was there that he became actively interested in aviation. For some time lie owned an old Avro ’plane which he housed at the Wanganui airport. The machine was considerably damaged when it was blown on to the top of the hangar at the Bell Block aerodrome at New Plymouth and was never flown after the late Mr. Norton was obliged to make a forced lauding in it near Wangaehu. The late Mr. Norton was the holder of ground engineer's licenses, and for some time had been employed as au engineer by Union Airways at Palmerston North. In addi tion to his widow, Mr. Norton leaves a daughter who is in employment in Napier.
