B Radio Stations

NAPIER TO CALL PUBLIC MEETING From Our Own Correspondent. NAPIER, May 4. Concern regarding the suggestion that the Government take over the control of B-clasa radio broadcasting stations in the Dominion was expressed nt last night’s meeting of the Napier Borough Council. Following a discussion on the matter, in which the opinion was expressed that the community should not be deprived of the services of the local B stations, the council left it in the hands of the Mayor, Mr C. O. Morse, to- call a public meeting, at which expressions of opinions as to the Government’s move bo invited. The council is also to enter a protest against any move by the Government to take over the local station. ‘ ‘Other local bodies have taken up this question, and I think that thi3 council should set a lead in this town,” said Mr Morse. “I think that tho citizens will be deeply apprehensive df, when the Government takes over tho B stations, the services to tho Community of our local station, and particularly of the Wairoa station, aro lost. We are going to be deprived of a lot of joy and pleasure by tho loss of these two stations. “I seriously suggest that we enter a strong protest against the Government taking over the B-clase stations and that we call a public meeting to air our views.” Cr. A. H. D. May no hoped that the Automobile Association (H. 8.) would take up the matter, because of the large number of motor-cars which were now fitted with radio. Most of the Sets were successful only in picking up the local B-class stations. 41 Hawke's Bay is badly off insofar ns tuning-4n successfully on the larger stations is concerned,” said Cr. A. C. B. Biggs. Most of the trouble was caused by static. •* Hastings Is taking up the matter so far as their own station and the Wairoa station are concerned,” pursued Mr Morse. ,< I think we should do something about the Napier and Wairoa stations too. It seems that if the Government take over the B-class stations, Wairoa is one of those which will go off the air.” The council agreed to leave the matter of calling a public meeting in the hands of Mr Morse.
