DANNEVIRKE ACCEPTANCES SPLENDID FIELDS FOR WOODVILLE ON FRIDAY Acceptances for the first day of the Dannevirke Racing Club's two-day meeting, which opens at Woodville next I? nday, closed last and the splendid response by owners and trainers indicates that lino weather is all that is required to make the meeting a wonderful success. The betting will be conducted under the single-pool system with two dividends, und iho list of acceptances is as under:—

Nominations for the Great Northern Hurdles, Great Northern Steeplechase, Winter Steeplechase, Cornwall Handicap, King George Handicap and York Handicap, to be run at tho Great Northern meeting of the Auckland Racing Club, to be held on Jane 5, 9 and 12, close with the secretary, Mr W. S. Spcncc r at 5 p.m. next Friday. SALE OF MAYPAY A MYTH The report that tho mare Maypoy has been sold by Captain J. Crawford to the Aga Khan at a high figure is entirely without foundation. Maypay is still located at M. Grogan’s farm at W anganui, waiting to be mated to Phaleron Bay to English time. When it is ascertained that she is in foal she will be shipped to Kentucky, U.S.A., where her next mate will bfe a son of the great American sire Black Tony. Confirmation of the arrangements was received by cable this week by Mr C. E. Robertson from Captain Crawford. GORDON RICHARDS’ RETAILERS As champion jockey it follows as a natural course of events that the services of Gordon Richards will bo in a strong demand as ever in England this season. No fewer than four stables arc to have a claim on his services. Beekhampton patrons will again havo first call, and second claim is to be exercised by Lord Astor, who has also secured a capable deputy in K. Jones when Richards is booked up. Third claim is held by Martin Uartigan, the Ogbourno trainer, with whom Richards servod his apprenticeship. A further retaiuer is held by Lord Portal, a patron of the famous Kingsclere stable. APPEALS UPHELD The London Sporting Life contains tho gist of the decision by the Judical Committee of the Privy Council in favour of the Australian Jockey Club ! against R. T. Naylor in its appeals I against the decision of the New South Wales Supreme Court. It was objected ,on behalf of Naylor that the by-law | under which the club acted was bad, because it was too wide and too uncer- ' tain. Lord Roche, in delivering the judgement of the Judical Committee, said the objection to Naylor was not because he was untruthful in other ! walks of life, but that he found it I necessary and permissible to obstruct a 'proper inquiry into an important matter in the government of racing by false and misleading evidence. It was a change of lack of principle and of I dishonesty directly concerning racing. Because, in their lordships’ opinion, tho by-law, properly understood, concerned itself with the character and conduct .of a person in such a connexion and not j with his character and conduct in general, they were of opinion that it was nbt too wide and it was not uncertain. They held that the by-laws was valid, and allowed the appeals of the Jockey Club, with costs.
