London Air Port

Imperial Airways and other civil air | companies may decide to transfer their Continental services from Crbydon to a new airport at Lullingstone, in Kent, six miles south of Dartford, states the Dairy Telegraph. This change was hinted at by Mr Woods-Xlumphery, managing director of Imperial Airways, to a House of Commons Select Committee, which was studying a bill to grant new electrification powers to the Southern Railway. Outstanding advantages of such a move would include:—Avoidance of the fog belt which lies round the London area, and which frequently interrupts passenger air services; saving of time now lost on the road journey of 45 minutes between Croydon and London; quick access ;, to London by railway; avoidance of the build-up area round Croydon, which has recently created difficulties; and flat and open country round Lullingstone. Imperial Airways Empire services have already: been moved to a new base for flying-boats at Southampton. Tho adoption of Lullingstone aa a terminal aerodrome for Imperial Airways Continental services w'ould involve the erection of hangars, customs, Home Office, meteorological and other buildings. The work would take at least two years. Tho Air Ministry, however, does not intend to give up Croydon. The airport is regarded as an important factor in air.. communciations, no matter what commercial development may take place.
