From Our Own Correspondent. General and Personal. At all practices of the Basketball Club there have been good attendances, and about 18 girls have signified their Intention of joining. Miss E. Vautier was unfortunate enough to sprain her ankle at the first practice. Mr Raphael Gore is home from hospital and his injured finger is mending satisfactorily. The tennis chaniplonshios have nowbeen concluded, Mr P. Koehler and Miss J. Harvey winning the combined doubles from F. Greene and Miss I. Johanson. F. Greene won the men’s championship, B. Oxenham defaulting. W.l. Meeting. Mrs J. Morris presided over about DO members and friends at the meeting of the Women’s Institute on Wednesday last. Mrs E. Smith was welcomed as a new member. Tho roll-call. “What improvement or demonstration I would like In the W.l.,** was well responded to, and i lany Ideas were obtained. An interesting letter received from the link in England was read. Mrs Sly reported that the group meeting will bo held on May 6 at 3.30 p.m. In Messrs. Collins*»:i and Cunninghames rooms. Competitions are for esgless cake (repice attached), and an article made from 11 yards of cretonne, cost of article not to exceed 4/-. The annual council meeting will be held on April 20. at 1.30 p.m. in tho Municipal hall, and the delegates chosen are Mcsdames Morris. and Johanson. Tickets for the social and dance to be held on the 30th. inst, were distributed and members will be required to bring a basket and Gd. Miss Slyfleld was an Interesting lecturer on the subject of hands and feet. The competitions were won as follows: Eggless fruit cake, (married ladies), Mrs Johanson; single ladies, Misses M. Vautier 1, K. Park 3. V. Burr 3; popular flower (married ladies), Mesdamea H. R Smith 1. 11. Wood 2, E. Johanson 3; (single). Misses J. Smith 1. V. Burr 2, M. Speedy 3. Miss M. Speedy was the holder of the lucky cup. Mira O'Brien received a wonderful reception for her vocal numbers, and responded with three much-enjoyed numbers. Mrs Morris expressed regret at Miss O'Brin’s pending departure and. wishing he every success in her new district, presented her with a scent spray frrn the W .1. Miss O’Brien replied. Afternoon tea was handed round by the hostesses. Mas* dames Johanson. Christensen, Wood Misses T. Xewcombe. L. Jordan and others. A committee meeting will be held ©n Tuesday at 2 p.m. Hall Queen Committee. There was a fair attendance at the meeting held to appoint a committee for tha hail queen candidate. Mr Gore presided and Mrs James was elected secretary and treasurer. The committee de- 1 cided that from now the proceeds of the euchre functions will go toward the fundi: for the queen. It was decided that a 1 second prise will be given. Mr Morris ? ! offer to donate the supper for the next function was received with acclamation. The colours chosen were emerald green and white. Mrs McLeavey’s offer to make the flag was accepted with thanks. A masquerade ball for May 20 was tentatively arranged for. as also were other functions. School Que*n Committee. Mr M. E. Knudsen presided over a fair Attendance held for the purpose of electing a school queen committee. Mr E. Newcombe wa© elected secretary. The colours chosen were purple and gold, and 3llss Speedy will make the flag for th« candidate. Tentative arrangements were made for % function on May 20.
