Brocaded Satin for Wedding Gown
HEATON—SMITH From Our Own Correspondent. HASTINGS, April 1. Y’ery rich parchment brocaded satin .as chosen for the lovely wedding gown •vorn by Joan Enid, only daughter of Mr E. J. Smith, of Waipukurau, and formerly of Hastings, at her marriage to Frank Leonard, third son of Mrs and the late Mr H. B. Heaton, Wolsley street Hastings. White and gold Easter decorations formed a lovely setting in St. Matthew’s Church Hastings where the wedding was solemnised and tiny posies of gold flowers with whit© satin bows marked the guests pews. The Rev. K. Liggett officiated at the ceremony and Mr C. B. Spinney presided at the organ. The bride’s gown of brocaded satin was fashioned with a very long train and the corsage had a square neckline in the front with a spray of orange blosson held in place by a brooch of rubies and pearls. A standing-up medice collar finished the back of the neckline, and she wore a gold locket set with the same stones, this having been worn by her mother. The sleeves were cut full and square at the shoulders and were tight from th© elbow to wrist. Her veil of embroidered tulle, arranged with a halo of orange blossom and tiny lilies, was worn over the face when entering the church. She wore cream brocaded satin shoes and carried an armshower in cream shades with carnations and roses.
Two maids, Miss Thora Young (chief) and Miss Joyce Jenkins, attended the bride, wearing beautiful Elizabethan gowns of gold satin. The very fitting skirts had a vandyked join at the waist and were slightly trained. The decolletage was finished with a high standup collar and a posy of violets was worn in the front. The sleeves were very full at the shoulders and fitting at the waist. Gold shoes were worn and smart little gold hats trimmed with posies of violets in front and finished with eye-veils. Each maid carried an arm shower of gold roses purple lasiandra and monkshood.
The bridegroom’s presents to the bridesmaids were a cameo ring to ono and a gold signet ring to the other. Mr F. J. Williams, of Dannevirke, was the best man and Mr Eric Heaton, the bridegroom’s brother, the groomsman. Messrs N. Smith and S. Small were tbp ushers and Mr E. J. Smith gave his daughter away.
