Damage by Sheep To Carnival Park

Sheep grazing in the Pahiatua Showgrounds and in the paddock fronting Carnival Park have been playing havoc with the flower beds and small shrubs by getting through the wire fences into the park. Hares and rabbits have also been responsible for a fair amount of damage to the young plants. Notified of the trouble, the chairman (Mr. J. Byrne) and the secretary (Mr. J. A. Walsh) recently visited the park, and as a result of their inspection it was/leemed vital to have a portion of the fence surrounding the park reinforced with wire netting. This has

now been done. It is pleasing to record that the park is now looking its best. A number of new flower beds have been made and the paths near the ornamental lake have received special attention, being re-gravelled and levelled. Tangled masses of dead trees have been removed also, and more open spaces for picnic I parties created. It is very gratifying to be able to say that this beautiful belt I of native bush has never been' seen to better advantage, presenting, as it does, a picture of tidiness and neatness. By Show time there should be a fine display of flowers in the park.
