Of Local Interest

Tuesday is usually sale day in Pahiatuu, but as yesterday was so near the New Year vacation no sale was held. It was surprising to see the number of cars parked in the main street, nearly as many as when there is a sale. It seems that many of the country people have started to do t.' eir new year shopping at this early date. On Monday when Pahiatua and district experienced very hot weather, a number of farmers thought that they were in for a dry spell, but yesterday the short-lived drought broke and busy haymakers the day before were obliged J to do other jobs about the farm. The coloured lights which made Pahiatua look so festive over the past -two weeks were t'jken down yesterday.
