From Our Own Correspondent The New Year’s Eve grand dance was quite as successful as those held in previous years, a largo crowd of merrymakers from surrounding districts joining the local dancing enthusiasts in making the evening a jolly one. Splendid music by a professional orchestra led the dancing with a swing. Several novelty dances added to the interest of the evening, the spot waltz being won by Miss R. Roberts and Mr. Len Duffy, and the Monte Carlo dances by Miss Brooking and Mr. L. Galvin, and Miss Bull and Mr. Collinson, of Palmerston North. Messrs J. D. Galvin and G. Wagstaff made efficient M.’sC. and dance extras were played by Mr. G. Thomson. As midnight approached fancy hats, squeakers and other novelties were distributed and the merriment increased. The New Year was finally welcomed by tne company joining in the singing of
“Auld Lang Syne.” Supper was served and dancing continued until the early hours. Among the ladies present were Mesdames J. D. Galvin, who wore a frock of black matalasse and gold lame; J. An enjoyable day was spent by cricket enthusiasts on New Year’s Day when a friendly match between teams selected on the ground was played on the Pohangina Domain. Tho weather in the early morning was very wet and threatening but eventually cleared enough to enable play to commence at 11 o'clock, continuing until 4 o’clock when rain again fell. Klink, of Utaki, spent the week-end at her home in Pohangina. Mr. and Mrs. K . McLeavy, of Dannevirke, with their children, are staying with Airs. McLeavy’s brother, Air. H. Aloar. Alajor and Airs. J. Brunt and Air. David Brunt, of Capetown, South Africa, are visitors to tho valley as the guests of Airs. Brunt’s sister. Airs. F. J. Klink. Air. J. Turnbull, of Auckland, is on a short visit to nis parents. Air. and Airs. T. A. Turnbull. Other visitors to Pohangina are Air. and Airs. B. YVildbore and their children, of Taumarunui, who are staying with Air. and Airs. YVildbore, senr. Air. and Airs. G. Klink, with their children, have returned from a holiday spent at Tangirnoana with Airs. Klink’s parents, Air. and Airs. J. Stuart.
