Feilding Railway Passenger Traffic
INFLUENCE OF WEATHER AND EPIDEMIC.
Holiday passenger traffic returns for Feilding reflect the influence of the wet weather over tho festive season and also the infantile paralysis epidemic in the South Island. But for these influences it was expected that the figures would reveal a substantial improvement over those for the same period last year. The rain definitely interfered with the bookings for short distance travel, notably in the case of the Marton races.
For the four-weekly period ending January 2, 2736 passengers departed from the Feilding Railway Station, producing a revenue of £735. For the nke period last year 2848 passengers left the the town for a revenue of £724. It should be noted that tho four weekly period for 1935-30 ended on January 4, so that the returns for the period just closed do not include at least two days which come within the holiday traffic period. On the figures given a total of 112 fewer passengers were carried while the revenue was up a matter of £ll. Mr. D. Finlay, the stationmaster, stated yesterday that through bookings to the South Island were definitely fewer this year, and this was no doubt due to the prevalence of the epidemic in Dunedin.
