Rongotea

Personal Mr L. H. Yarrall returned to Rongotea after visiting the South Island glaciers.
After being stationed in Rongotea, as local agent lor Rawley’s Ltd., for the past two years. Mr Swanger, with his wiie anti lamiiy, has returned to Wellington where he Intends to re-enter the building trade. Mr W. Hurst, Jr., has oeen appointed to the position held by Mr Swanger of agent lor Hawley's Ltd., and his many friends will wish him a successful future. Air ahd Mrs E. T. Glover have returned to Cambridge after spending the Christmas vacation with Mr and Mrs J. Glover, Snr. Miss Jill Bower, ot the staff of Messrs Paikes and Co., has returned to Rongotea alter spending Christmas and the New Year in upunake. Mrs Round, snr., enjoyed the company of her daughter. Airs Anuitage, of Auckland. during ihe Christmas holidays. Miss D. Round lias :cit lor Auckland after a visit to Rongotea. Rongotea and tile surrounding district, in common with the lest of tno Dominion, experienced a very miserable New Years Day during which rain led heavily and thunuer ana ngiumng ui great intensity was experienced. * oriunafely, aiuiougn one or two transformers and a number of tuses were affected, there was no great damage done and the electric power was off for only a snort time m the afternoon.
The Cnristmas and New Year holidays were very quietly observed in Rongotea, many families visiting the beacnes when the weather permitted. i\ew Year's Eve was celebrated very quietly, tnere being none of the excitement and gaiety usually associated with the season.
No More lea. Off New Year s dvo the tea-rooms, run by Airs M. Bower, were open for the last time, Mrs Bower having decided to give up business. Airs Bower lias been In business lor seven years, during which time she has endeared heiself to those who have nud occasion and opportunity to patronise her. That the bus.’ness is
not being continued at present as a matter to be regretted, as tnose attending the dairy lactory meetings and the local stoca sales will have to mane arrangements lor lunch in future instead of being able to avail themselves of the wellcooked meals dispensed by Airs Bower in her cheery little dining room. During the holidays the Manawatu County Council's caterpillar grader has been Kept busy on the roads over which much holiday traffic has passed. Friends of Aliss Vera George will regret to iearn that she is at present confined to the house with an injury to her leg.
