Masterton Hatchery
(To tlio Editor.) Sir,— Mr. K. V. Mason shows by his letter in your issue of November 20 that he either has not read my letter (to which his attention was drawn) or he has ignored the text of it. I made no reference whatsoever to the Wairarapa North Sub-comw'"ae, the only portion of my letter touching on the hatchery being: “I think that the Pahiatua Sub-committee should have had more information before passing the resolution in reference to the Masterton hatchery. Had they been in possession of this perhaps the resolution w'ould not have been passed.” The report of the Pahiatua meeting stated that members would have liked more information. My remarks merely deprecated the action of a sub-commit-tee in passing a resolution on someone clse’s recommendation, without, on their own admission, being in possession of full information. The Pahiatua Sub-committee apparently are not worrying about the matter, but Mr. Mason, evidently one of the sponsors of the resolution -assed at Pahiatua, considers h.e should defend it.
As he states that the Wairarapa, North Sub-committee is.in possession of the. full facts, I cannot understand why he is, making so much fuss. He should know that the whole question of the hatchery is still under consideraation.
I would advise Mr. Mason not to attempt to read into any letter that which does not appear or, alternatively, to use care to ascertain the true meaning. He should also have-read the report of the Pahiatua meeting appearing in your issue of November 7 before rushing into print. I am, etft., E. W. PEIEST, (Chairman, Palmerston North Subcommittee). Palmerston North, November 20.
