MR. WILLIAM CACCIA-BIRCH

Deep and widespread regret has been occasioned by tho death of Mr. William Charles Caccia-Birch; of "Woodhey,” Te Awe Awe street. The late Mr. Caccia-Birch, who was well known in both Palmerston North and Marton, and was a higkly esteemed resident of this centre, passed away early on Monday morning after undergoing an operation which became necessary when he was taken suddenly ill. Born in October, 1566, at Florence (Italy), the late Mr. Caccia-Birch was educated at Dulwich College (England), and after spending a year of cadetship on a farm in Scotland, came to New Zealand, holding a cadetship on the Te Aute station (Hawke’s Bay). Subsequently he joined his great-uncle, Mr. William John Birch, on tho "Ercwhon” station at Moawhango, later managing this large station until it was sold. Retiring in 1920, the late Mr. CacciaBirch toon up his residence for a short period at Marton, and then came to Palmerston North, where he established his home, and though he did not enter into public life, enjoyed the esteem of a host of friends, his charm of manner and genial personality making him a popular figure who will be greatly missed. The late Mr. Caccia-Birch is survived by his widow, who was formerly Miss Keillcr, of Bulls. There are three sons —Messrs Anthony (Marton), Gerald (Marton) and Thomas (Palmerston North).
