Women's Division of The Farmers' Union

PAHIATUA BRANCH MEETS ASSISTING SEVERAL CAUSES Mrs J. D. Piper presided over the recent monthly meeting of the Pahiutua branch of the W.D.F.U. After tho routine business had been dealt with and a number of letters read, Mrs Piper gave an interesting resume of her impressions of tho recent conference held at Dunedin in Jnly, at which 400 -delegates from all over New Zealand were present. The Masterton branch wrote to say there would be a girls’ educational week held in that town in September. Girls without friends to stay with will be billeted out, and are only asked to bring pocket money, not exceeding fifteen shillings. A highly interesting programme is being arrangod, and tho ago limit is 15 to 25. This being the first venture, it w ? as decided to limit the number of girls to 05. At threo o’clock a number of teachers from town and country schools carne to the meeting to discuss and make arrangements for "The Homecrafts Day,” tho date for which was fixed for September 29th. This “Homecrafts Day” is a venture arranged and sponsored by the Education Board, who havo asked the Women’s Division to give them their co-operation and help, which they havo w'illinglv agreed to do. Miss MoFadden (Makomako) was appointed secretary, and stewards for various classes wero also arranged. Tho Division will provide refreshments which will bo free to tho children, and a nominal charge will bo made to adults. The object,of "Homecrafts Day” is to inculcate into the children’s minds the wise use of their leisure time as regards valuable hobbies and handcrafts. Mr E. G. McKenzie moved a hearty vote of thanks to the ladies for their interest and help. Next month’s meeting will take the form of a social afternoon and arrangements are being made to have an interesting lecturer.
