COULDN’T BEAR A PARTING

Seventy-five-year-old Edward Gain, of Eastleigh, Hants, has died of a broken heart —twenty-four hours after he lost his wife. He couldn’t bear tho parting. The pair were known locally ns Darby and Joan. They had been married forty-seven years. In all that time they were parted once for more than a day. The other day Joan died. When Darby was told, ho said: “It should havo been me, not her. But it won’t be long before we are together again.” Within a day he was dead, and the couple were buried in the same grave. "Father died of a broken heart,” said Mrs F. Bates, the only daughter. “When he was told of mothor’s death he insisted that he would join her, but we did not realise that his prophecy would bo fulfilled to soon,” Mr Gain worked for the Southern Railway for fifty years.
