Free Ambulance Finance

“ Not in a Very Good Way! ”

MANAWATU COUNTY DISCUSSION Tho position of tho Palmerston 'North Free Ambulance was debated at yesterday's meeting of the Manawatu County Council when tho organisation submitted its balance sheet and report. Cr. J. H. Perrctt: They arc not irt a very good way, are they? Cr. J. Boyce: And tihoir ambulances can’t be too good, cither! "They will not be able to carry on very long on those lines," remarked Cr. Perrett, who further opined that the organisation appeared to be going back. Discussing the expenses of the organ isation, Cr. Boyce said that -lie understood that the collectors received 2o per cent, of their collections. In any case the board had agreed to a conierence to review the whole position. The position was discussed informally and it was finally agreed that Cr. N. Morcom represent the council at the conference. The chairman 'Cr. W. E. Barber) 10marked that the conference would possibly clean up the whole question as to whether there was a need for the two services. The position should be finalised. Tho Free Ambulance had done a lot of good work and if it. were found that the ambulance service could bo improved on the basis of the free ambulance organisation, then lie hoped finality would be reached. It was just a question whether the time had arrived for Palmerston North to follow in the footsteps of Wellington and Auckland.
