From Our Own Correspondent School Committee. _ Tho monthly meeting of the Milson School Committee was held on Monday evening, Mr. Murphy (chairman) presiding'. Other members present were Messrs. Eaton, Williams, Richmond, Thomson and Robertson (secretary). An apology for absence was received from Mr. Hutchinson. The headmaster (Mr. McEwan) reported that the attendance is very satisfactory. Inspectors McMurtrie and Herrington visited the school on July 21), but reports were not yet received. Arbor Ray was celebrated on sth Inst., when an oak and rowan tree and several shrubs, all of which were donated, were planted by some of the younger pupils. Items by the older pupils were appreciated. The meeting was unanimous that a letter of appreciation be forwarded to Mrs. Thomson and that her resignation be accepted with regret. The meeting also dealt with an application from Miss D. I’otts for the vacancy created and appointed her as caretaker. The committee desires to thank all who helped to provide a radio for the school and especially to record sincere appreciation to Mr. J. “ ton for evolving the means to this end. J he official inauguration ceremony of the radio was decided for September 10 at 1.30 P.m. and a hearty invitation to all Interested in the welfare of the children is extended. Personal. ■Mr. and Mrs. W. Brown, late of Milson, and now of Eketahuna, are at present on a visit to Milson and are the guests of Mrs. Johansen, of Carlisle street. Mr. L. Seargant. of the goods shed staff at Palmerston North Railway Station, had the misfortune to Injure his thumb while engaged in the goods shed on Monday morning. He will be unable to follow his occupation for some days. Mr. c. Free, of the traffic branch at the Palmerston North Railway Station, has returned to duty after spending his annual vacation. Mr. A. Marlow, of the same branch, has also returned from, holidays.
