“This court Is very glad that under the new legislation it will have the power to impose imprisonment in these cases,” said tho Magistrate, Mr J. H. Lunford, S.M., at Wellington, when a number of persons appeared before him on Friday charged with making false statements for the purpose of obtaining benefit under the Unemployment Act. “These cases are very serious, on account of the large number of persons taking advantage of the measures brought down originally to afford relief to distressed persons,” continued the Magistrate. “This i 3 a particularly -mean type of fraud,”
