Tlie Daily Telegraph’s Dublin correspondent states that Mr. do Valera suffered a reverse in the Dublin municipal elections which resulted in the Conservatives securing 13 seats and the Dianna Pail 12, the latter losing a seat to the Conservatives. Independents have 3 seats and Labour 2. The Pianna Pail made desperate efforts to-oust Alderman Byrpe as Lord Mayor, opposing'him very strongly because he was the only public man who travelled from the Prec State to attend King George’s funerat, Por tho first time the election was fought on a political basis, the Government, in its effort to win, anoifslnng the commercial register and extending tho manhood franchise. Nevertheless, Mr. Byrne headed the poll w r ith 14,297 first preference votes, the highest recorded in his area. All the Independents except Mr. James Larkin are supporting Mr. Byrne, who is assured of his seventh year of Mayoralty. Sir. Cosgrave declared that the result proved that the Government ’s popularity is waning. Mr. George Gilmore, Republican, who was defeated, said it was a victory for tho Union Jack.
