Romney Marsh Sheep Breeders’ Annual Report

Tie annual report of tlo New Zealand Komney Marsh Sheep Breeders* Association, to bo presented at tho annual meeting to bo held in Dunedin this week, records a satisfactory financial position with an excess of income over expenditure of £B2 31s 4d. During tho year tho following stud sheep were exported from New Zealand: To the Argentine 19 rams; to Australia 6 rams and 7 ewes; to Uruguay 3 rams; a total 1 of 28 rams and 7 ewes.

The usual grant of £3O as a donation to the Komney classes at tho 12th Koyal A. & P. Show, held at Hastings in October, 1935, was made and at the annual meeting, a grant of £3OO, spread over three years, was mado to Massey College for the purpose of assisting in. the very important researches and investigations being made by that institution into tho question of sterility, a question that vitally affects every flockowner.

In the certification of rams scheme, in-augurated-in 1934, was held in abeyance during last season, but as a great many of our members desired something done to raise the standard of our flocks, a new scheme is being evolved which will be submitted in due course.

As part of the original certificate scheme, a series of demonstrations and. field days were given by the certification inspector, Mr A. L. Wheeler, in. various parts of the Dominion, and were an unqualified success, and very instructive and helpful, especially to many young breeders.

The members of the exoeutivo committee were called together on several occasions on matters requiring urgent attention, and tho thanks aro duo to these gentlemen for their time and attention to matters affecting this association.

Hotice of motion was given Mr J. A. Mitchell at last year’s annual meeting, to open the flock Book to admit registered flocks, already in any other flock book in New Zealand, and this will come before you for adoption and confirmation, as will also a further notico of motion by Sir William Percy, to alter -rule* 40 to*‘giv& effect'to tho motion by Mr Mitchell. Tho past season has been a very successful one for breeders, the prices ruling for stud and flock sheep being extremely satisfactory indeed, and it certainly appears that tbe Eomney is more than holding its own.

The following members of-the council retire by rotation this year, in accordance with our rules:—Messrs E. E. Black, A. S. Elworthy, W. K. Morton, Sir W. Perry and H. Voss, and as there are other nominations, an election will bo necessary.
